Who is behind Let’s Create A Home?
Behind Let’s Create A Home you will find a passionate hyphenate individual. Nikolina was born in Greece by an Australian mother and a Greek father. Her mother was a pianist and her father owned a bookstore. During his young years her father photographed Greece to create some of the first greek travel postcards.
She was brought up in a home full of life, music, books, art, photography and beautiful interiors. When she was young she wanted to study classic greek, design or politics. She rejected the latter and she studied the first. In the meantime she took a mini MBA in London School of Economics since she has ended up working with business management in retail for high-end design companies. She met her Swedish husband, David, 14 years ago and a few years later they decided to start their common life together. Currently in her middle 30ies she has lived in 4 different countries (Greece, Denmark, Norway, UK) and her big love is design and styling. Being a people’s person she loves creating spaces that her clients fall in love with again and again.
Interior influences
During her 20ies she lived in Peloponnese and Athens and she was very much influenced by the elements of the land there, like natural stones, and olive trees. She holds a special place in her heart for Cycladic architecture, considering she was lucky to be able to spend her summers in the greek islands. Growing up in a country with plenty of sun she loves light and linen curtains because they remind her of her childhood. Her favourite hang out place in Athens was anywhere near the Parthenon. The Parthenon is the most important survival building of Classic Greece generally considered the zenith of the Doric order (as one of the three orders of ancient Greek and later Roman architecture; the other two canonical orders were the Ionic and the Corinthian).
She never thought she had so much passion for interior design until 8 years ago she and David bought their first home in Copenhagen. Her interior knowledge back then was little but her curiosity for interior design kept growing during the years. Having lived in Denmark for quite some time she was introduced to Scandinavian design. Scandinavian design is clean and seeks the beauty through simplicity. It focuses on simple lines and does not like clutter, it is functional and combines materials gifted by the nature. Finally, It invites you to forget everything you know and just take a breath. During her years in Scandinavia she got highly influenced by interior furniture and accessory brands like House Doctor, Gubi, Ferm, Carl Hansen, Louis Poulsen, Bolia. She considers her biggest influence to be Bolia.com, where she was creating living room interiors for the company and its customers during 2019-2020.
Moving back to the UK after 10 years she is on the process of renovating her first full-house reno-project and her goal is to create a home where she can combine the Greek-Scandinavian simplicity with the rich interior British personality. She has a soft spot for Victorian and Edwardian architecture and British kitchens. She believes every house should have a shaker kitchen, and that there is a reason that the tradition of shaker is keeping strong since the 18th century. An ideal home for her combines Greek revival or Cycladic architecture with Scandinavian design and a British kitchen.
“I have been flirting with the idea of Let’s Create A Home, over a year now. When this full-house-renovation project landed on my feet I knew it was time to share my ideas with other people. I created this space not only because I love interior design but because I also love helping other people create their interior spaces. Beautiful interior design for me is simple, timeless and functional. It is a design you can carry with you across the world and it would reveal who you really are. It can be loud, quiet, simple, complex or whatever you want it to be. But above all your interior design should be YOU and you should love it! Not loving it is just not good enough”
