On Sundays I want to share content with you that inspires me and I believe best represents current interior design trends. We are 3 months into the year so I have a good idea about 2021’s interior trends. Fluted trims is one of them, and I do not know how you feel about it, but I believe this one is here to stay.
Small Intro in Fluting
Fluting in architecture consists of shallow grooves running along a surface.
The term typically refers to the grooves running vertically on a column shaft or a pilaster, but need not necessarily be restricted to those two applications. If the hollowing out of material meets in a point, the point is called an arris.
Greek architects viewed rhythm as an important design element. As such, fluting was often used on buildings and temples to increase the sense of rhythm. It may also be incorporated in columns to make them look thinner, lighter, and more elegant

Most known ancient architecture expression of fluting: The Parthenon, Greece

Fluting is definitely not something new. It is a classic look in interior design and is now reviving in modern home decor. It is mainly used to give texture and dimension in a room and it is absolutely gorgeous. Designers have taken fluting in another level the past 2 years. We have seen beautiful fluted design contouring in wood, porcelain, glass, metal, textiles… and the list goes on. Whether it is man or machine-made, fluted design is beautiful and it is taking charge in all interior expressions. Fluted vases, cabinets, furniture, walls, lighting, accessories, check around your home, you probably have something already in fluted design.
How to use fluting?
1. In the Kitchen: Add fluting at the end of cabinets or kitchen islands to create a focal point. Choose fluted glass for your cabinets or replace old cabinet glass with fluted glass or wood.

2. Extend vertical lines of fluting from floor to ceiling to create an illusion of high ceilings.

3. Use fluted furniture or accessories in your current interiors. If you are low on budget give life to old furniture by adding fluting panelling and paint to create a new masterpiece. It is a perfect diy and cost effective since you can use MDF panels that you can source in places like B&Q. A lick of paint and you are good to go. (Below first photo diy cupboards from Senna Jue).

4. In addition to your bathroom tiling. Completely transform your bathrooms with exciting fluted cabinets, wet room panels, or even fluted tiles

Fluting can add a touch of character to every room and designers love it because it can work both in contemporary or classic interiors. It’s versatile, it’s classical and it is fun. Whichever way you will use to implement fluting in your home, fluting is here to stay.
I am so happy I was looking for fluted on instagram tags and found this blog. Thank you for all the recommendations and inspiration photos. I found some more people to follow including yourself! π

Can’t take enough of your content. I like fluting myself but I had no idea it had a name. Any idea where I could find the headboard of quadroroom? I have texted them but no reply. Would really appreciate if you know where I could purchase it from. Cheers xx Laura

Hi Laura! Thank you for following the blog! I am not sure in which area of the world are you but I will just give you some different links. It will be easier to find a headboard instead of a wallboard (on the picture) in general. However this type of design has been such a big trend the past 3 years so you will easily find something to fit your budget wherever you are. Keep in mind design studios like quadroroom usually custom-make part of their designs.
Scandinavian site, this looks very much like the one from quadroroom:

Wayfair is a British site. People usually underestimate what great finds one can find here that costs very little. For a site that gives you also the opportunity to return it definitely worths the while:
